Caregiver – Murrieta, CA


The Caregiver position is responsible for providing personal assistance and routine daily care and services to the residents as may be directed by the Executive Director, the Assisted Living Coordinator or the Memory Care Coordinator in order to enhance the residents’ independence and quality of life. In addition, the Caregiver is responsible for assisting residents with recreational activities to help maintain their quality of life and assisting with housekeeping duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age;

2. Have a high school diploma, or equivalent.

3. Be able to read, write, understand and communicate in English at a minimum level to understand and be understood by supervisors, co-workers and residents.

4. Possesses sufficient verbal and written communication skills to be understood by supervisors, co-workers and residents.

5. Possess sufficient computer skills to be able to print documents and enter information into resident records.

6. Possess a positive and energetic attitude.

7. Be professional in appearance and conduct.

8. Must be criminally cleared by DOJ and FBI via the Live-Scan process prior to initial presence in the facility.

9. Be physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks with or without accommodations. Be free from tuberculosis that is verified by a health screening performed by a physician not more than (6) months prior to or (7) days following employment.

10. Have current Adult First Aid card at time of employment and maintain throughout length of employment.

11. Must demonstrate dependable attendance and be able to work varying hours and shifts as needed.

12. Provides safe transfer, positioning and turning of clients using effective body mechanics.

13. Assists in food service as needed.

14. Must complete all training required by Title 22 and H&S Safety Code.

15. Must have a passion for working with senior individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The essential duties and responsibilities described below are representative of those a team member may perform as the basic functions of the position. 1. Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADL) as listed on the residents Service Plan.

2. Responding immediately to resident requests while on duty.

3. Provides assistance with elimination needs of residents by: providing care of the incontinent resident, including the proper use of incontinent briefs; reinforcing bowel and bladder training; assisting residents with toileting, including the use of urinals, commodes and toilet seat extensions.

4. Provides safe transfers, positioning and turning of clients using effective body mechanics.

5. Assists in food service as needed.

6. Reports any needed repairs to Executive Director.

7. Reports immediately any suspicion or evidence of elder abuse, mistreatment or neglect as outlined in Personnel Policies.

8. Intervenes in situations involving unsafe or inadequate care and reports immediately to the Executive Director.

9. Promptly answers emergency call systems, telephone and paging systems.

10. Participates in all scheduled team member meetings, and other community-wide Team Member meetings as requested

11. Participates in mandatory on-going education and in-service training.

12. Uses effective verbal and non-verbal communication to present information in a positive and non-threatening way.

13. Responds effectively to resident behavior. Uses supportive communication in resident interactions including effective communication skills with residents who have sensory deficits.

14. Observes and reports resident physical and emotional condition changes, using appropriate terminology and abbreviations.

15. Applies non-sterile bandages/dressings and applies anti-embolism stockings (TED hose).

16. Demonstrates good practice of infection control principles by understanding the infectious process and modes of disease transmission, and by using appropriate hand washing techniques.

17. Demonstrates understanding and support of Resident Rights by providing for resident privacy; maintaining resident confidentiality; promotes the residents right to make personal choices to accommodate their needs; reinforces behavior consistent with resident dignity; assists resident to participate in activities.

18. Maintains a safe environment by keeping the community safe, clean and comfortable; recognizing environmental safety hazards, understands the methods to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries; using safe practices when O2 is in use; identifying and following the community’s disaster plans, can describe and follow the community’s fire procedure, including the operation of fire extinguishers and ways to prevent fires; planning for the safe use and maintenance of equipment; practicing good infection control procedures.

19. Provides basic emergency care as determined by the emergency needs of the residents by providing basic first aid.

20. Supports the mental health and social service needs of residents by: observing and reporting mental status and behavior changes; modifies own behavior in response to resident behavior; facilitates the resident’s expression of needs and provides supportive communication; assists and instructs residents to be independent in the activities of daily living; uses resident’s family as a source of resident support.

21. Performs and completes assignments within established procedures and guidelines.

22. Performs moderate housekeeping duties including the picking up and managing the disposal or cleaning of resident’s laundry bags.

23. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Assisted Living Coordinator or other management staff.

24. Makes oneself aware of and abides by Renaissance Village’s rules and policies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

In a typical (8) hour shift, Universal Caregivers will routinely be required to stoop, carry, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, climb, grip, reach, push and pull. Universal Caregivers will also occasionally be required to lift overhead, waist high and floor level. The maximum lift will be over (50) pounds. Universal Caregivers will also be required to use fine motor and manual dexterity skills in writing, keyboarding and grasping. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified team members with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: $16.50 – $18.50 per hour
