Senior Living Resident Spotlight
William D.
William D. is this month’s senior living Resident Spotlight at Renaissance Village Murrieta.
William was born in Imperial Valley, California in 1953. His father was a heavy-duty equipment operator. He worked on Interstate 8 & 15 while William was growing up. His mother worked for Thrifty Drugs in the Valuables Department. Since he had two working parents, a maid took care of everything at home. He has one sister, whom he loves dearly, and two brothers.
Furthermore, William had a wonderful experience growing up in the desert with his friends. They would explore the area with their dune buggies and Jeep 4-wheel drive. Additionally, his family owned a boat, and would take it out on the Colorado River. He’s grateful for these opportunities because he knows not everyone gets to do such things.
Making the Move to San Diego
William learned to drive in a 1942 ex-military Jeep. A week after he graduated from high school, he made the move to San Diego. He immediately went to work, and his first job was delivering milk as a milkman. Additionally, he worked the counter in an auto parts store. Later on, William became a manager for Pell Mell Supply, one of the largest industrial fastener companies.
William worked at Pell Mell Supply for 32 years and he says they treated him like he was made of gold. The company gave bonuses every year, which allowed him to travel. He got to see Spain, France, Holland, Turkey, the Greek Islands, Hawaii and Mexico. Of all the places he visited, Holland was his favorite. He believes that when one travels, you have to have an open agenda because sometimes things don’t go as planned. But, this also allows you the opportunity to ask what you can do, how the locals can help, and it always turns out.
William enjoys the live music and Happy Hours each Friday night. He loves that everyone on staff is caring and attentive. William shares that they provide plenty of ways for residents to stay stimulated.
