Marilyn Mohr was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and grew up in a little town called Mound. She enjoyed her years in school and was always involved in music. She sang in the school choir and even sang a few solos, of which she says they twisted her arm in getting her to sing. Another fact, she also played the clarinet in the school band.
She began playing piano at an early age, but it was not something that she took seriously until after she graduated from Northwestern College. From there, attended the Macphail’s School of Music and it became a bigger part of her life. Playing the piano is relaxing for her and ultimately became her ministry.
Mohr met her husband in college when he and a friend offered, her and another friend a ride from the park so they wouldn’t have to walk. Little did she know at the time, he would be the man she would marry. They were married for over 60 years and they had four children, two daughters, Sandra and Deanne and two sons, Alan and Mark.
Music with a Purpose
Marilyn’s husband later became a pastor and she played piano in churches. She’s been able to see how music can touch the lives of others, in fact, an article that she read in Good Housekeeping Magazine caught her interest because it spoke about the blessing that old hymns can be to people’s health and the loneliness they may feel in difficult times.
With trusting in Christ as her Savior when she was younger, her faith means everything to her. Faith has become the center of her life and it gives her joy in using it to minister to others. Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths,” means a great deal to Marilyn. Mohr believes that we all need direction in our paths, especially today.
Mohr has a variety of experience, she’s worked as a bookkeeper, a receptionist and even worked at a dry cleaner. Marilyn was also selected as a Roadeo Princess by a moving trucking company called Consolidated Tradeways. They dressed her up and drove her around the Minneapolis Fair Grounds in a convertible. Waving to all the people in the bleachers and they clapped as she passed by.
Marilyn is full of life and an extremely talented pianist. Be sure to catch her by our piano some time, you will not be disappointed.
